Volume Spike

Traded volume over twice its recent average — big money moved, whatever the price did.

Price tells you what happened; volume tells you how many participants agreed. A spike above ~2× the 20-bar average marks a session where something real changed hands.

Volume is the honesty check on every other pattern: a breakout, gap or reversal on spiking volume has institutional weight behind it; the same shape on thin volume is retail noise.

Breakout + volume spike = conviction. Breakout on dead volume = suspicious.

A spike on a DOWN day after a long rally often marks distribution.
