Flag & Pennant

A sharp move (the pole), a brief shallow pause (the flag), then usually more of the same.

A flag starts with a pole — a fast, steep move — followed by a few bars of quiet drift *against* it, giving back less than 40% of the pole. Early profit-takers sell; the trend’s buyers absorb them without letting price fall far.

A pennant is the same idea, but the pause *contracts* toward a point instead of drifting in a channel.

Both are continuation patterns: confirmation is the close escaping the pause in the pole’s direction — the rest was just the market catching its breath. Bear flags/pennants mirror everything downward.

The shallower and shorter the flag, the stronger the hands holding the move.

A "flag" that retraces more than half the pole is not a flag — it is a reversal attempt.
