Sector

The industry group a company belongs to.

Companies are grouped by what they do — Banking, IT, Pharma, Metals & Mining, Capital Goods and so on. Shares within a sector tend to move together, because the same forces act on all of them.

Sector context changes the reading of a single stock: the strongest share in a weak sector is a different proposition from an average share in a strong one.
