SMA (Simple Moving Average)
The average closing price over the last N days, redrawn each day.
A 50-day SMA is simply the average of the last 50 closing prices. Each new day it recalculates, which smooths the daily noise into a line you can read at a glance.
Price above a rising average is the classic definition of an uptrend; below a falling one, a downtrend. The 50-day and 200-day averages are the two most watched, which is partly self-fulfilling — enough people act on them that they matter.
A share at ₹2,182 with a 50-day SMA of ₹2,099 is trading above its two-month average: the recent trend is up.
Every moving average lags by construction — it is made of old prices. It will never call a turn early; it confirms one after it has happened.
