Mid Cap & Small Cap

Companies ranked 101–250 (mid) and 251 onwards (small) by size.

The ranking is official: companies 101 to 250 by market capitalisation are mid caps, and everything from 251 down is a small cap. There is no separate "micro cap" bracket in the Indian definition.

Smaller companies can grow faster and are less picked over — and they fall harder, are more thinly traded, and can be genuinely difficult to sell on a bad day.

A ₹51,000 crore company can still be classified small cap: the label comes from rank, not from an absolute rupee threshold, and there are a great many listed companies.
